UPDATE (06/29/17) I have ran out of these ‘beta’ knobs, seems there is a real need for a better knob on the KX2! I am working on getting a mold made for the new knob, I will post the updates here as I make prgress on this new part. Thanks for the interest and feedback as we bring another product to life.
I like many of you see the need for a better VFO A Knob. This beta 3D printed VFO A knob has a traditional finger dimple as well as a new ‘pimple’ (sounds bad but wait till you try it!) in addition, it has a better ring of corrugations for traction to spin the knob. The knob is just .110″ taller than the factory knob and the same width as the factory knob (as measured at it’s base)
This is a BETA knob to test drive, should there be enough interest in this product I will move forward with the project and do one of two versions:
The first may be an injection molded plastic part with a finish much like the current factory knob. The mold is expensive as usual, so there will have to be sufficient interest to move forward. This version could have a rubber molded tire rather than all one piece of plastic.
The alternative is to make an Aluminum body and add the rubber tire around the outside of it. This will be a more costly product, but I can do it in short runs, with out the expense of a mold.
Please come back to this page and post a review of this part! You can post reviews for any of my products on their respective page!

The new beta version, 3D printed KX2 VFO A tuning knob with a finger dimple is a joy to use; and, I look forward to the smooth surfaced production model with elimination of the rough surface especially within the finger dimple.

The beta knob has been great so far ! Got it yesterday and I really like how easier it is to tune around the bands now !!
I’m all for a production model of it, I will buy one for sure !!

While not pretty, this knob is far superior to the stock Elecraft knob. It makes for far superior tuning. I would be very interested in a production model. Thanks Scott!

I received my beta VFO A tuning knob a few weeks ago. I agree with the other reviewers… This knob certainly beats the Elecraft original knob. The beta knob feels good and tunes smoothly. I will be buying the real thing as soon as it is available.

A solid 5 stars for my new KX2 beta knob! It.is an absolute joy to use. My KX2/KXPA100 duo is my main station and the lack of a finger dimple on the stock tuning knob soon became the ONLY less than superb feature of my setup. You can bet I’ll be one of the first to buy a production version!!!!!!!! It’s soooo comfortable and accurate to search and pounce now.

Received mine and find it just what is needed. Will purchase a final build version as well. Only comment is perhaps to limit the depth of the shaft key hole. When I pushed the knob on it would go flush with the panel. I could pull it up a bit so it wouldn’t rub (not objectionably) but over time it would move back down. I would prefer the final would not be able to rub / scratch the panel. Great job…

Great beta run on this knob, its not the prettiest thing out there but with the dimple it is way better than the factory knob. Crossing my fingers this gets a smooth surface production run.

I too like the feel of the knob. Given the size of the knob, I find the pimple easier to use than the dimple. For final production, I would prefer injection-molded plastic to match the look and feel of the other knobs.
